Figuring out what to wear is hard enough without the added benefit of longer days and warmer weather. No one wants to fall victim to the sweat stain epidemic currently sweeping its way across the nation, and it’s with that in mind that we’ve put together this list of trending gear to keep you cool no matter how high the temperature rises.
LIGHTWEIGHT COTTON BLAZER
Summertime means cookouts, trips to the beach and a general propensity towards less clothing. What it doesn’t mean is the end of fashionably dressed events (Summer weddings, anyone?) Unless you’re TV Exec Jack Donaghy, wearing a tux after six might be a bit much, but a casual blazer will save your wardrobe all sorts of embarrassment. Whether it be worn with slacks, shorts or jeans, a nicely fitted blazer won’t only elevate your game, it’ll look good doing it.
WIDE COLLARED/CUBAN COLLARED SHIRTS
Don’t call it a come back, Cuban Collared shirts have been here for years. What sets these pieces apart, however, is that they’re famous for being warm weather friendly while still allowing for maximum individuality. Do yourself a favor and stay away from polyester blends, lest your plan is to look like a bowling alley attendee. Keep it light, poplin cotton in bright colors tend to work well with the overall theme of summer. Prints can work too, but absolutely NO HAWAIIN.
Last year saw the inception of Athleisure clothing come to fruition in a big way. And it’s a good thing too, because besides being a buzzword for anything casually sporty, it just happens to be one of the coolest laidback styles to hit menswear in a long time. The fabric choices work best as mesh or sweats, but their versatility makes them perfect for activities that span anywhere from beaches to brunch.
Tired of the skinny jean era making summer hell on your junk? Rhetorical, of course you are. They’ve dominated the male fashion line for years, but some much-needed relief has finally come in the form of Wide-Legged Trousers. Rock them with cuffs and a pair of high-top sneakers, or drop some swag on ‘em and go blazer and black brogues for a more formal look. It takes pretty huge cojones to pull off a look like this, but remember, fortune favors the bulge.
Casual sneakers have been a staple in fashion since Run DMC announced their love affair with the ADIDAS Superstar, or shell toe, back in the 80s. As the classification of casual shoes continues to evolve, one thing remains the same: you can’t go wrong with the classic white, leather top look. Go no show or printed mid-calf socks, either way, you’re a shoe in for casual style MVP.
